Leona Lewis's breakthrough hit "Bleeding Love" (Syco/J Records) was the most popular song at Dada.net in 2008.
"Bleeding Love" was the first number one single for the British songstress and X Factor winner, reaching the top spot in the U.S. and U.K.
Lewis followed up her huge hit with the top 10 "Better In Time."
Best of 2008: #2 Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl"
Katy Perry made everyone sit up and listen to her single "I Kissed A Girl," Dada.net's second most popular song of 2008.
The risque lyrics to "I Kissed A Girl" made the song an instant hit, topping the chart in 20 countries including the U.S. "I Kissed A Girl" catapulted sales of Perry's debut album One of the Boys (Capitol/EMI) to platinum. The album's follow-up single "Hot N Cold" was also a huge hit at the end of 2008.
Her songs have been heard in MTV's The Hills, Self-Inflicted and Thinking of You, Oxygen's Fight Girls, Fingerprints and the film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. "I Kissed A Girl" was also featured on the popular NOW 10th Anniversary collection, available exclusively for download at Dada.net.

Best of 2008: #3 Lil Wayne's "Lollipop"

Lil Wayne had the third most popular song of 2008 at Dada.net with "Lollipop," his first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., the rapper joined the Cash Money Records collective while just a teenager. In 1997, he formed the group Hot Boys along with rappers Juvenile, Turk and B.G. and they released their debut Get It How You Live that same year. Hot Boys followed up their debut with two more releases before Lil Wayne launched his solo career in 1999. His first three CDs were met with little success until the 2004 release, Tha Carter, and a featured spot on Destiny Child's "Soldier" turned his career around.
The next couple of years were nonstop. Tha Carter II followed in 2005. In 2006, Lil Wayne collaborated with rapper Birdman for the album“Like Father, Like Son. He later featured on Fat Joe's single "Make it Rain" that year. In 2007, he also appeared on the R&B single "You" by singer Lloyd.
Tha Carter III was released in 2008 and brought Lil Wayne to a level of commercial success he had never had before. "Lollipop" was the album's first single - and it put Lil Wayne on top of the Billboard charts for the first time. The song also appeared on the popular hits collection, NOW 10th Anniversary, available exclusively for download at Dada.net.

Best of 2008: #4 Coldplay's "Viva La Vida"
Another year, another big album for Coldplay.
The U.K. megaband released Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends (EMI) earlier this year, scoring number one Billboard singles with "Violet Hill" and "Viva La Vida."
"Viva La Vida" is Dada.net's fourth most popular song of 2008.
Since forming in London 10 years, ago, the alternative rock band has sold 40 million albums worldwide. They are known for their hit singles "Yellow," "The Scientist," "Speed of Sound" and "Clocks." Coldplay's early material was compared to acts such as Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, U2 and Travis but with Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, they have firmly est
ablished a place all their own
Best of 2008: #5 M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes"
M.I.A. has Dada.net's fifth song on the Best of 2008 with "Paper Planes," the latest single from the singer who crosses many genres and who is not afraid to confront social issues through her music.
The singer known as M.I.A. was born Maya Arulpragasam in Sri Lanka amid major political strife before moving to England as a teenager and later pursuing a music career. Her debut album, 2005's Arular, was a huge critical success and put her on the charts at home and in the U.S. with the singles "Sunshowers" and "Galang."
Her second album, Kala, followed in 2007.
Best of 2008: #6 Ne-Yo's "Closer"
2008 was The Year of Ne-Yo.
The R&B star released his third album, The Year of the Gentleman (Island Def Jam), and had two hit singles by the end of the year, "Miss Independent" and "Closer," Dada.net's sixth most popular song of 2008.
2009 is sure to be another great year for Ne-Yo. Gentlemen's third single, Mad, is currently rising the charts and he has several acting projects in the works.
Best of 2008: #7 Sara Bareilles's "Love Song"
Dada.net's seventh most popular song of 2008 is the breakout single from Sara Bareilles, "Love Song."
"Love Song" was the first single from the singer/songwriter/pianist's sophomore album, Little Voices (Epic Records). The song actually entered the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in late 2007 but was a chart staple for months to come. Bareilles embarked on a nationwide tour and appeared on many television talk shows to promote the song. A follow-up, "Bottle It Up" was released in mid-2008.
Best of 2008: #8 P!nk's "So What"

Fresh off a divorce, P!nk released Funhouse (LaFace/Jive) and poked fun at all the nosy tabloids up in her bidness with "So What," Dada.net's eighth most popular song of 2008.
"So What" was a fresh and funny look at the newly-divorced and always gutsy P!nk, who rose to fame in 2000 with the release of her first album, Can't Take Me Home (LaFace/Arista). Throughout the decades, the singer born Alecia Moore has been a mainstay in the top 10 with singles like "Get This Party Started," "Who Knew," "Just Like a Pill," "Don't Let Me Get Me," and "Most Girls."
Funhouse is P!nk's fourth album and also features the new single "Sober." Watch for it on Dada.net's Best of 2009 list.
Best of 2008: #9 OneRepublic's "Apologize"
Timbaland may have been all over the charts in 2008 but he sometimes showed up in surprising places anyway - including OneRepublic's breakout hit "Apologize," Dada.net's ninth most popular song of 2008.
Produced by Timbaland, OneRepublic introduced longtime songwriter Ryan Tedder to mass audiences as the face and voice of OneRepublic. "Apologize" was a huge number one hit in early 2008 and was followed by "Stop and Stare," proving the act was no one-hit wonder and Timbaland had another platinum project on his hands.
Best of 2008: #10 Rihanna's "Disturbia"

Following 2007's release of her multplatinum album, Good Girl Gone Bad (Island Def Jam) and a slew of big singles include "Umbrella," "Hate That I Love You," "Shut Up and Drive," "Take A Bow" and "Don't Stop The Music," 2008 was another big year for Rihanna. With the release of Good Girl Gone Bad Reloaded and the huge hit "Disturbia," the Barbados-born singer established herself as the year's biggest star. So it's no surprise that "Disturbia" lands at number 10 on Dada.net's Best of 2008 list.
Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, Rihanna was discovered when music producer Evan Rogers vacationed in Barbados and was introduced to the budding singer. Her music was well-received in the U.S., with singles like "Pon De Replay," "SOS" and "Unfaithful" all making their mark on the Billboard Hot 100. It was Rihanna's 2007 album, Good Girl Gone Bad, that firmly established her with global stars like Beyonce and Britney Spears, garnering several number one singles and two Grammy wins. Rihanna is the second artist - and the first female- from Barbados to ever receive a Grammy.
Best of 2008: #11 Sugarland's "Stay"
Sugarland's huge hit "Stay" is the lone entry on Dada.net's Best of 2008, coming in at number 11.
One of the biggest acts in country music - and one which often crosses over to the pop charts - Sugarland has released several multiplatinum albums, including 2008's Love On The Inside. They have consistently reached the top 10 of the country charts since their 2003 formation with hits like "Stay," "Settlin'," "Everyday America," and "All I Want to Do."
Sugarland vocalist Jennifer Nettles also scored a number one song - and a huge pop hit - with the 2006
duet "Who Says You Can't Go Home."
Best of 2008: #12 Usher's "Love In This Club"
Usher's dance anthem "Love In This Club" is Dada.net's 12th most popular song of 2008.
The number one Billboard single from the artist born Usher Raymond IV is from his latest multi-platinum album, 2008's
Here I Stand (Zomba). Since the mid 1990s, Usher has been a mainstay at the top of the charts with hits like "You Make Me Wanna...," "U Remind Me" and "Yeah!."
Best of 2008: #13 Chris Brown's "Forever"
Chris Brown 's "Forever" was one of the biggest hits of the year (it reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100) and at Dada.net. It's the 13th most popular song of 2008.
Over the past three years, the teenage Brown has become the hottest sensation in R&B and pop thanks to hits like "With You," "Run It!," "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" and "Kiss Kiss." His sophomore album, Exclus
ive (Jive/Zomba), has sold over one copies since its 2007 release. Brown has even dabbled in acting appearing on Disney's The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and in the 2007 dance movie Stomp The Yard with Ne-Yo, Megan Good and Columbus Short.
We've Made Your Experience Easier!
You might've noticed that we've made some layout changes to Dada.net today! I think this is really going to help you find and discover even more great music.
We improved the album page to give you a larger image and even more information about the album you are looking at. Have a look at Kanye West's album here
The artist pages have also been improved - there is now a Play Top Tracks widget for each artist which lets you listen to the best songs from that artist right in the music player. Check it out on The Killers's page
We've also tidied up the navigation bar. You can now find the 'mobile extra' content on the navigation bar across the top of the screen.
The search results page has also improved to clearly lay out all of your results and help you find exactly what you were looking for.
What do you think of our new look?
Best of 2008: #14 Duffy's "Mercy"
Welsh singer/songwriter Duffy made a huge impact on the international music scene with "Mercy," a throwback to 60s R&B and Dada.net's 14th m
ost popular song of 2008.
Born Aimee Anne Duffy, the singer known as Duffy teamed up with former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler in 2004, co-writing several songs and developing her Stax- and Motown-influenced pop sound. Duffy's debut album, Rockferry, was released in 2008 and the single, "Mercy," made her a fast-rising star, reaching number one on the Billboard charts.
Best of 2008: #15 Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire"
How's this for a success story? Kings of Leon, whose "Sex on Fire" is Dada.net's 15th most popular song of 2008, have reached greater heights with each new album, taking the band far from their Tennessee roots and making them one of Europe's most popular acts.
Since their debut in 2003,
Kings of Leon experienced immediate popularity in the U.K. but it's taken a little longer for music fans stateside to catch on. Though the single "Molly's Chambers" and tours supporting U2 helping break the band early, it wasn't until 2007's Because of the Times that the Kings of Leon started receiving widespread recognition in the U.S. The album debuted at number 25 on the Billboard charts and also topped the charts in several countries. 2008's Only By The Night, debuted at number four in the U.S. and number one in the U.K., sealing the band's status as one of the decade's coolest bands.
These Tennessee rockers are just beginning their global domination.

Best of 2008: #16 Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body"
The biggest hit off of Mariah Carey's latest multiplatinum album E=MC2 (Island Def Jam) was the number one
hit "Touch My Body" - Dada.net's 16th most popular song of 2008.
"Touch My Body" also marked a new feat for Mariah. She now holds the record for the solo artist with the most number one singles in history, besting the previous record set by The King himself, Elvis Presley.
Best of 2008: #17 Keyshia Cole's "Heaven Sent"

The 17th most popular song of 2008 at Dada.net belongs to Keyshia Cole's "Heaven Sent," the first single off of her new album, A Different Me (A&M/Interscope).
Keyshia Cole's first album, 2005's The Way It Is, spawned several hit singles (including the top 10s "Love" and "The Way It Is") but it was her guest appearance on Diddy's "Last Night" and R. Kelly's "Best Friend" that really paved the way for the California-bred R&B singer/songwriter. Her 2007 album Just Like You was a massive success as was her BET reality series of the same name. Keyshia Cole was now a household name.
"Heaven Sent" reached the top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100.
Best of 2008: #18 Britney Spears's "Womanizer"
Don't call it a comeback.
After a rough two years, Britney Spears returned to the spotlight with a number one album, Circus, and a number one single "Womanizer" - Dada.net's 18th most popular song of 2008 (ringtones and MP3 downloads).
It was a nice return to the top from the former Mouseketeer turned pop superstar who spent the better part of the past decade dominating the charts with classics like "Baby One More Time," "Oops I Did It Again" and "Toxic" and selling out arenas across the globe. Recent personal problems aside, Britney said in a recent MTV documentary that she really never stopped focusing on her music. With Circus, it looks like Britney is back and better than ever.
Just don't call it a comeback
Best of 2008: #19 Metro Station's "Shake It"
Dada.net's 19th most popular song of 2008 (ringtones and MP3 downloads) is "Shake It" from electro-rock band Metro Station.
Metro Station owe much of their success to the internet. "Seventeen Forever" was a huge hit on MySpace and it was an intern at their now record company, RED/Columbia, that found the band while perusing the site's music listings.
Metro Station released their debut album in late 2007 and, by summer 2008, "Shake It" had reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
By the way, did you know that vocalist/guitarist Trace Cyrus is the stepson of country star Billy Ray Cyrus and the half brother of Miley Cyrus? Or that guitarist Mason Musso's brother also stars with Miley on the hugely popular Hannah Montana series? But that's typical in Hollywood, isn't it?
Best of 2008: #20 Adele's "Chasing Pavements"

All month long I will be counting down Dada.net's 20 most popular songs of 2008 (ringtones and MP3 downloads). Keep checking back here every day for a look back at all of the music you loved the most here at Dada.net. Here we go...
Dada.net's 20th most popular song of 2008 is the breakthrough hit from U.K. songstress Adele, "Chasing Pavements."
Adele's music first reached the masses one year ago when BBC Radio 1 in the U.K. began playing her single "Daydreamer" and U.K. popstar Jamie T released her "Hometown Glory" song on his indie label, Peacemaker. By early 2008, BBC Radio had put Adele on their new music talent list and she was signed to XL Recordings. The single "Chasing Pavements" and her debut album 19 - the singer/songwriter was only 19 at the time - were released shortly thereafter.
Adele made a big impact in the U.S. as well. After early support from VH-1, "Chasing Pavements" entered the Billboard Hot 100 in November at number 82 and Adele was hailed as one of the brightest new talents of the year, earning her a Best New Artist nomination at the 2009 Grammys. Her story is clearly just beginning!
Billboard Names Bon Jovi 2008's Top-Grossing Tour

Music industry bible Billboard has announced the top grossing concert tours of 2008!
Bon Jovi's Lost Highway tour was the biggest tour of 2008, raking in $210.6 million and playing to over two million fans across the globe.
Another New Jersey-bred act - Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - comes in at number two. Their Magic Tour grossed $204.5 million.
Rounding out the top 10 are tours by Madonna, the Police, Celine Dion, Kenny Chesney, Neil Diamond, Spice Girls, Eagles and Rascal Flatts.
